Seoul Hall of Urbanism and Architecture: Visit the Galleries Before the Rooftop

The Seoul Hall of Urbanism and Architecture is a free exhibition stop near City Hall, with galleries below ground and a rooftop viewpoint above. Plan an actual gallery visit rather than treating the whole venue as a quick photo platform.

Photos below show nearby landmarks for orientation; they do not show the exhibition hall’s current galleries.

Admission, hours and the right address

The official tourism page, updated September 26, 2026, lists Tuesday–Sunday hours of 10:00–18:00, with last entry at 17:30. It closes Mondays, January 1, Lunar New Year’s Day and Chuseok; when Monday is a public holiday, the listed closure moves to the following day. Admission is free.

Save 119 Sejong-daero, Jung-gu. City Hall station on Lines 1 and 2, exit 3, is the suggested approach: the operator estimates one minute on foot, while Visit Seoul lists 90 m. There is no dedicated visitor parking. The venue has one above-ground floor and three basement levels. Seeing a low building from the street does not show the full exhibition area.

Check what is on now, not an old exhibition photo

On October 30, the operator’s current-exhibition page lists the permanent “Seoul Architecture Awards – Hall of Honor” at Hour Gallery. The September 15–October 11 architecture festival has ended. Seoul’s September 29 announcement schedules a BIG exhibition for November 6, 2026–February 28, 2027 and an urban-architecture exchange exhibition from November 26, 2026–February 28, 2027; these are future programs, not October 30 displays.

The same city announcement advertises Saturday opening until 21:00, while the general operator visitor guide still shows 10:00–18:00 and entry by 17:30. For a Saturday evening visit, confirm the current dated notice or call +82-2-736-8050. The announcement does not establish a separate late-entry deadline or rooftop opening time. Standard admission is free, but the operator notes that some special exhibitions operate separately.

Choose one city question

Before entering, choose something you have noticed while travelling: how a public square is used, how an old street meets a new building, or why certain routes feel difficult to walk. Use that question when reading a model, drawing or display. You will remember more than if you photograph every panel.

Allow around an hour as an independent planning suggestion, with flexibility for the current exhibition. Do not rely on an old exhibition title or a photograph from a previous biennale to predict today’s displays. Check the current program if a particular architect or installation is your main reason for coming.

Add the rooftop afterward

Ask staff about access to Seoul Maru and current conditions, then add it if available. Keep the gallery closing time separate from assumptions about outdoor access. A free visit can still be worthwhile when weather makes the rooftop less appealing.
