Gongju National Museum: Hours, Free Entry and Baekje Visit Tips

Gongju National Museum offers free general admission and a practical introduction to Baekje before you visit Gongju’s archaeological sites. The museum opens 09:00–18:00, including weekends and public holidays, except its listed closure days. Plan gallery time and a tomb or fortress visit separately; each destination has its own entrance and rules.

Gongju National Museum hours and admission

The operator’s current visitor page gives the following baseline. It also marks night opening and its Culture Day program as temporarily suspended. Do not plan around an older late-opening announcement.

Allow time to enter and explore before 18:00. The visitor page checked for this guide does not specify a general last-entry time, so this is not a promise of admission immediately before closing. Check date-specific notices when a holiday or special exhibition determines your trip.

Start with the Ungjin Baekje gallery

The official homepage identifies the first-floor Ungjin Baekje gallery and a second-floor Chungcheongnam-do history and culture gallery. Begin downstairs for a Baekje-focused visit, then decide whether you have time for the regional collection. As a planning suggestion, reserve around 90 minutes for a focused museum visit, rather than treating that estimate as an official tour duration.

Choose one object label to read carefully: where was it excavated, what did it do, and how does it relate to the site you will visit afterward? An older gallery photo does not guarantee that every pictured object is on display today. Ask staff if a particular object is essential to your visit.

English audio and separately managed activities

The museum describes a free exhibition-guide app with Korean, English, Chinese and Japanese support. It recommends downloading the museum’s content over Wi-Fi and bringing your own earphones. Its location-based guidance uses Bluetooth and location services; check the app’s current compatibility on your device before relying on it.

The digital immersive-video room has on-site registration, approximately eight-minute screenings and around ten people per session. It pauses from 12:00 to 13:00. Missing a reserved session prevents booking the next session under the published rule. Questions about this room go to +82-41-850-6302. A general museum visit does not automatically reserve a screening or children’s activity.

In galleries, avoid phone calls and food. The operator prohibits flash, tripods and commercial-purpose photography. Follow gallery-specific instructions even when casual photography appears possible.

Getting to Gongju National Museum

The museum’s directions page lists bus 108 from Gongju Bus Terminal to the museum. Bus 125 is another listed option, but it requires alighting at the Culture and Arts Center and walking about 800 metres. The page estimates approximately 15 minutes by taxi from the terminal; traffic can change that estimate. Check live departures rather than assuming a published route means a frequent service.

Save the museum and your chosen Baekje-site entrance as separate map destinations. Free museum admission does not cover another attraction’s tickets, nor does a museum closing time establish the site’s hours. Finish the gallery visit, check the remaining travel time and choose one outdoor stop instead of compressing several visits into the final hour.
