For dakgangjeong (닭강정), choose the sauce, confirm whether the chicken is boneless, and check what the box price covers before ordering. A small, medium or large box is a shop’s size label, not a standard weight shared by every seller.

What is dakgangjeong?
The Korea Tourism Organization describes fried boneless chicken glazed with either a sweet, spicy chili-based sauce or a sweet soy-based sauce, with crushed nuts such as peanuts on top. Treat that as a general description, not the recipe of every shop. Ask about the actual sauce and chicken offered at the counter.
Do not judge heat from a red or dark colour alone. Ask whether a less-spicy version is available before the pieces are coated. If you have an allergy, ask about the sauce, batter, toppings and shared preparation equipment. Removing a visible topping does not establish that the rest of the order is suitable.
Useful Korean menu words
- 순살 (sunsal): boneless meat. Confirm that this applies to the product you are choosing.
- 간장 (ganjang): soy sauce. A soy-sauce label alone does not guarantee a non-spicy recipe.
- 매운맛 / 순한맛: spicy / mild flavour. Ask which versions the seller actually has.
- 소 / 중 / 대: small / medium / large. Compare the stated grams or contents as well as the label.
Questions to ask before paying
| Korean | Meaning / purpose |
|---|---|
| 순살인가요? | Is it boneless? |
| 덜 매운 것도 있어요? | Do you have a less-spicy option? |
| 작은 상자도 있어요? | Do you have a small box too? |
| 한 상자에 몇 그램이에요? | How many grams are in one box? |
| 땅콩이 들어가요? | Does it contain peanuts? Ask about other relevant ingredients separately. |
| 포장비가 따로 있어요? | Is there a separate packaging charge? |
Compare box size, weight and extras
Ask whether the menu price is per box, per stated weight, or for a set. If comparing a bone-in product with boneless chicken, remember that the listed weight does not mean the same amount of edible meat. Check whether any rice cakes, side dishes or drinks are included; a photograph does not settle what your order contains.
Calculation example only, not a current shop quote: 400 g for ₩10,000 works out at ₩2,500 per 100 g; 700 g for ₩16,000 is about ₩2,286 per 100 g. The larger box has a lower unit price in this example, but the smaller box costs less in total. Compare like-for-like chicken and sauce, and buy the amount you need.

For takeaway, confirm how you will eat it
Tell the seller if you plan to eat soon or carry the box to your accommodation, then ask for handling and storage instructions for that specific product. Packaging alone is not a reliable storage-time guide. Ask whether sauce can be packed separately if that matters to you; already-coated pieces may not be customizable.
Before leaving, confirm the selected flavour, box size and total, including any separate sides, drinks or packaging charge. Neither archival photograph provides a current business menu, serving size or price.
