Gyeongui Line Forest Park: Give Your Yeonnam Walk a Start and Finish

For a manageable Yeonnam walk, start at Hongik University Station exit 3 and follow Gyeongui Line Forest Park toward Yeonnam Intersection. The Yeonnam section is about 1.2 km one way; Seoul Parks allows about 35 minutes on foot.

Choose your finish before browsing cafés. Walking the same section back makes roughly 2.4 km and 70 minutes of walking, before photos, crossings or food stops. You do not need to cover the park’s entire 6.3 km corridor.

Simple returnRetrace the greenway to Hongik University Station; about 2.4 km / 70 minutes total walking.

Hongik University Station serves Line 2, the Gyeongui–Jungang Line and AREX. Visit Seoul identifies exit 3 for the park approach. A station has several exits, so include the exit number in your meeting message rather than saying only “Hongdae station.”

The park office address at Gongdeok is an administrative contact, not the start of this Yeonnam itinerary. For this walk, save the two endpoints above. Use the official English park map for orientation and confirm crossings with your live walking map.

How much time should you allow?

The current Seoul Parks page gives about 35 minutes for the Yeonnam section. Its older English leaflet gives about 30 minutes. Treat these as approximate walking allowances, not a timed route: your pace and crossing waits will decide the actual duration.

For an out-and-back outing with a few photographs, reserve 90 minutes as an independent planning allowance. A 70-minute walking baseline leaves only about 20 minutes for stops; a sit-down meal or café visit needs additional time. For a short break, walk out for 10–15 minutes and turn around instead of committing to the entire section.

What to look for along the former railway

Gyeongui Line Forest Park (경의선숲길) reuses former railway land as a linear green space. In the Yeonnam section, Seoul Parks identifies lawn areas, a ginkgo-lined route, a waterway and railway traces. Read those features as the context for your stroll; a historical photograph does not confirm flowing water or the same planting on your visit date.

The nearby Waugyo/Book Street section is a separately named stretch. Do not follow a Book Street photo as if it necessarily showed the Yeonnam route you have saved. Keep your walk’s purpose specific: Yeonnam browsing on this trip, or a different railway section on another outing.

Cross streets, then browse the neighborhood

The green corridor meets streets. Use marked crossings, follow signals where provided and pause away from moving pedestrians when checking your phone. The presence of old rails or a continuous strip of planting does not give walkers priority across a road.

Choose any café or meal stop after deciding how much walking remains. Save its actual entrance and current menu, and check portions and opening hours before treating it as a fixed stop. This guide does not quote an unverified café price or promise seating. Keep your return route available even if your group separates to browse.

Weather, transport and a practical fallback

Use public transport: Seoul Parks says the park has no dedicated parking along its sections. General park inquiries are +82-2-719-8830; the operator points Yeonnam visitors to the park post near Yeonnam Police Station for on-site information.

If rain, crowding or fatigue changes the outing, turn back toward your saved station rather than walking farther to make the visit feel complete. This is an outdoor neighborhood walk, so choose a separate verified indoor destination if shelter is the main requirement. Respect nearby homes, leave entrances clear and take rubbish away.
