Packing for Korea from the US or Canada: Check Your Chargers First

A practical packing plan for voltage labels, connectivity, arrival details and the first day in Korea.

Check the label before buying an adapter

Korea Tourism Organization lists Korea’s electrical supply as 220V, 60Hz, with round-hole outlets. The important first step is to read the input label on each device or charger you intend to bring.

A plug adapter changes the physical connection; it does not, by itself, convert voltage. Follow the device manufacturer’s instructions. If a device’s suitability is unclear, leave it at home or ask the manufacturer rather than experimenting after arrival.

For example, an input label reading 100–240V, 50/60Hz includes Korea’s 220V, 60Hz supply. Apple publishes that range for its USB power adapters; check your own model rather than assuming every charger has it. Read the input line, not the lower DC output voltage printed nearby.

Make a small equipment list

Item Before departure
Phone and laptop chargers Read the input range and confirm the plug solution.
Hair tools and other high-power devices Check the manufacturer’s Korea/220V guidance individually.
Mobile connection Confirm device compatibility and the chosen provider’s setup requirements.
Travel documents Keep your own secure copies and the official requirements relevant to your trip.

Do not pack a converter just because it appears in a generic checklist. Choose equipment for the specific device, not a country name alone.

Plan connectivity before the arrivals hall

Compare your carrier’s roaming with a local connectivity option on the provider’s official page. Check activation, the period of validity and whether your intended phone can use it. Save the setup instructions somewhere you can read without relying on the new connection.

Korea’s tourism authority describes airport roaming centers and SIM or Wi-Fi rental options. Availability at a particular counter and your product’s collection time should be confirmed with the operator.

Pack for the first 24 hours

Keep your hotel’s Korean address, arrival instructions and a backup route accessible. Put essential charging equipment where you can reach it. Check the actual forecast shortly before departure and choose footwear for your planned walking, not only the season’s reputation.

This checklist deliberately avoids a fixed baggage allowance or entry-rule summary: those depend on your airline, passport and circumstances. Use the relevant official sources for those decisions, then use this list to make the first day less complicated.
